Day 6

Emma and Tom spent the whole day (well, 9:00-4:15) at the dinosaur dig site, living the dream by digging in the dirt in the hot sun.

Lydia was around in the morning. She uncovered some bones, and also some kind of petrified nut.

This area is amazingly full of fossils,    so we were fortunate enough to get to dig some up. It was a little nerve-wracking, because they're so delicate and potentially so important, but it was also great fun. The fossils we dug up ended up being small and unidentifiable, and therefore useless, so we were allowed to take them with us. It was hot and dusty and exhausting, but a great experience.

While Emma, Lydia and Tom were dino digging in the morning, Jessica went on the Sadona ride through the Sage hills to another vantage point of our amazing landscape. This ride provided a great opportunity for loping along a lot.

Jessica and Lydia were back at the ranch for lunch. Look at this lunch. There it is. These were cheese enchiladas with dipping additions - yum.

While Tom and Emma continued to work at the dinosaur dig, Lydia and Jessica took a ride up to Devil's Leap. This was a hot and windy afternoon that took us to a spectacular ledge with a 900 foot drop. The views were amazing and we got to do a fair amount of cantering or loping as those westerners say.

The Devil's Leap ledge required jumping over a small crevice between the main ledge and the end piece. We stood on this ledge to take in the views and as we started to jump back, a rattle snake began to rattle in the crevice. We couldn't see the snake which made it very scary to jump over the crevice. Luckily no one was bitten. As we walked back to our horses which had been hobbled further down the ledge, swallows swopped over our heads making a loud whooooshing sound. It was very cool. This ride had some very steep trails to descend, but we all made it without a problem.

On the return ride our wrangler Laurel pointing out Monument Rock and Cow Pie Rock.
Can you tell which is which?
